SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- SkyPilot Networks, a leading provider of carrier-class wireless broadband systems, today announced it has joined the WiMAX Forum(TM), an industry-led, non-profit organization that promotes the interoperability and certification of broadband wireless products using the IEEE 802.16 standard. By joining the WiMAX Forum as a principal member, SkyPilot committed to integrating 802.16-compliant products into their portfolio of multi-service mesh networking systems.
"The products we offer today provide service providers with robust and economical last-mile solutions for broadband wireless," said Bob Machlin, president and CEO of SkyPilot. "There is a great deal of interest in WiMAX as the future for wireless broadband, and we're fortunate that 802.16 dovetails nicely with both our expertise and existing product architecture. The SkyPilot system provides highly flexible deployment options including mesh, point-to-multipoint and point-to-point options for residential, business and campus environments. As the 802.16 standard continues to evolve, SkyPilot plans to incorporate 802.16e technology to enable access for the upcoming generation of high-speed, mobile wireless clients.
"The addition of SkyPilot Networks to the WiMAX Forum signifies another key milestone in furthering the adoption of future 802.16 solutions," said WiMAX Forum President Ron Resnick. "Carriers and wireless internet service providers are actively evaluating the future of WiMAX Forum Certified(TM) products to incorporate into their network infrastructures and SkyPilot's participation in the WiMAX Forum will help accelerate the adoption of WiMAX solutions."
"There is little doubt that WiMAX will play an integral role in the future of large-scale wireless broadband networks," said Brian Jenkins, vice president of product management at SkyPilot Networks. "With today's announcement, we are taking an important step in ensuring that we deliver a fully interoperable solution with other WiMAX Forum Certified products.
