Siemens wins $41 million dollar contract to expand China Mobile's GSM/GPRS network

MUNICH -- The mobile arm of Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (FWB:SIE) - Siemens mobile - remains on its winning track in China: Siemens is expanding the GSM/GPRS network of China's biggest mobile operator, China Mobile Communications Corporate Ltd. (China Mobile), in the Anhui Province. China Mobile's customers should be able to benefit from the increased network capacity as early as the end of the year. The new order is worth 41 million US dollars.
Siemens mobile is equipping the China Mobile network in Anhui with additional transmission and receiving systems (base stations) and switching technology. The expansion will increase the capacity of the network by more than a million subscribers. Work should be completed by the end of the year.
"China is one of our key markets worldwide. Our local production sites and research and development activities in China are a decisive factor for us having been able to support China Mobile adequately to expand their mobile communication services for many years now", said Christoph Caselitz, President of Networks at Siemens mobile.
