Chinese cable operator GuiZhou ZunYi CATV has selected Riverstone's Ethernet routers to provide business data services

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Riverstone Networks(Pink Sheets: RSTN), a pioneer in Carrier Ethernet Networks, today announcedthat Chinese cable operator GuiZhou ZunYi CATV has selected Riverstone'sEthernet routers to provide data services to businesses throughout the city.The deployment marks the cable operator's first venture from residential videoand Internet access services into enterprise data services, part of a growingtrend among Chinese cable operators.

Using Riverstone's RS 8000 and 3000 series of carrier Ethernet routers,CATV seeks to expand its customer base and capture additional revenues byoffering Local Area Networks (LANs) and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). TheEthernet network will provide CATV's enterprise customers with a reliable,cost-effective solution for linking together geographically dispersed offices.

"To stay competitive, both phone and cable companies have to find newsources of service revenues," said Yong Shu, Vice President, Asia-PacificRegion, Riverstone Networks. "Increasingly, they are turning to Ethernet,which allows them to offer any combination of voice, video or data servicesover a single, converged infrastructure."
