Proxim Gets to E. Europe
Proxim enters Eastern European market via Winncom Technologies distribution agreement
July 1, 2003
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Proxim Corporation (Nasdaq: PROX), a leading provider of high-performance wireless local area networking (WLAN) and wireless wide area networking (WWAN) products, today announced that it anticipates entering the Eastern European wireless networking market via a newly signed distribution agreement with Winncom Technologies Corp., a subsidiary of ARC Wireless Solutions.
Under the agreement, Winncom will become a Wireless Wizard Distributor of Proxim products in Russia and other Eastern European countries. The title of Proxim Wireless Wizard Distributor reflects Winncom's receipt of the highest certification available through Proxim's new channel partner programme, indicating that Winncom has demonstrated a high level of wireless networking competence during programme testing. The title also reflects Winncom's achievement of an advanced understanding of the variety of wireless networking solutions Proxim provides, as the partner programme training focuses on solutions for various target market segments - including, corporate enterprise, wireless ISP, government, education and last mile solutions for both LAN and WAN.
Through Proxim's newly expanded distribution relationship with Winncom, Eastern European resellers and service providers will have a reliable source of first-class, award-winning wireless products, which will help them to take advantage of a developing WLAN and WWAN market in Eastern Europe. Sourcing Proxim products through Winncom is critical to resellers, who seek the Winncom brand name to ensure authenticity and reliability. In addition, when deploying end-to-end Proxim wireless solutions, resellers will now be in a position to offer their customers value-added services, technical support and training.
Commenting on the distribution agreement, Greg Raskin, President and CEO of Winncom Technologies, said: "I think it is a very timely agreement. Eastern European markets are growing and capitalising on advances in wireless technology. In many regions of Eastern Europe, the wired infrastructure is poorly developed and it is often too expensive or impracticable to extend existing wired networks to new customers. Improved access to wireless solutions will offer customers options currently unavailable in these areas."
Jan Jensen, Proxim's VP of International Channel and Marketing, added "We are excited to have Winncom come aboard as a distribution partner. We believe that Winncom's successful history with our products in the United States underscores their expertise in serving customers in the wireless networking markets. We anticipate that their understanding of wireless networking solutions and the local markets' needs will combine with Winncom's new distribution role for Proxim's reliable and industry-leading solutions to provide customers with a secure, reliable, multi-standard enterprise-class for WLAN and Telco-standard for WWAN" .
