SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Point Reyes Networks, an opticalnetworking startup, today provided a glimpse of its technology and thestrategy that it will use to bring an all-IP (Internet Protocol) solution tothe heart of the public telecommunications network next year.Point Reyes Networks, founded in April 1999, is headquartered in San Jose,with a research and development center in the Telecom Corridor (TM) inRichardson, Texas. Its mission is to bring new revenue opportunities to"carriers' carriers" - those companies that own optical fiber and currentlylease it to other service providers.
Point Reyes Networks' solution will enable those companies to deliver TDM(time division multiplexed) ATM, VoIP (voice over IP), and Internet servicesover a single, high-density IP optical platform. The solution brings fiberefficiency to core and long-haul optical networks and eliminates the highcost of overlay networks.
