Optium introduces its Manta Ray family of tunable long-reach transponders

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- OFC 2002 -- Optium Corporation, a leading developer of 10 Gb/s optical transponders, today announces the introduction of their Manta Ray family of Long Reach transponders. Truly a breed apart, these transponders are LiNbO3-based modules designed for Long Reach (LR) and Ultra-Long Reach (ULR) applications of greater than 80 km. The Manta Ray product family is compatible with the 300 pin MSA and is available in a 3.5 x 4.5 x 0.53 inch package size. As part of the standard product offering an I2C interface and microprocessor control and monitoring functions are available. These modules are capable of multi-rate operation (SONET, 10 Gb/s Ethernet, and SONET with FEC). The units incorporate the latest LASER tunable technology thereby providing a tuning range of 8 wave-locked 50 GHz channels, today. Anthony Musto, vice president of Sales and Marketing at Optium states, "the tunable LR module will reduce inventory costs and improve time to market for our customers."Future modules will be capable of full 80 channel L-band or C-band tuning and will be wave-locked to 50 GHz channels.
