LIVERPOOL, U.K. -- NUBLU have recently supplied the hardware and network design for Europe’s first truly wireless city, Amsterdam. Now to follow is a major development in Liverpool. The project involves outdoor wireless meshrouting units, which will make wireless network and broadband services available anywhere within the reach of its antennas. It takes WIFI beyond a commodity available in bars. It will be available in your home, in the streets, just about anywhere, similar to mobile phone services.

NUBLU will launch a new wireless broadband service at the Liverpool Biennial 2004. The Arts Festival’s Independent District will be the first area in the UK to be boasting true metropolitan wireless broadband services. Anyone with a computer, laptop, PDA or mobile phone which is wirelessly enabled, can use the broadband services. For the duration of the Biennial, the service will be free of charge. Visitors can use the wireless services to find their way through the exhibitions, or escape the office and work in the creative environments of the exhibition spaces. Businesses and residents in the area can trial the service, which set to outperform landline based broadband.

It is to expand to become the installation of the UK’s first Metropolitan Area Network. This will mean wireless broadband internet access for everyone – everywhere.

“After a successful secret trial period with multiple users in Liverpool and the successful launch in Amsterdam, we are now ready to go live and provide the service to the public – the Liverpool Biennial provides the ideal launch pad.” says NUBLU’s director, David Fox.
