Korean mobile operator KTF has launched the "Love Detector," a voice analysis application designed to measure a caller's amorous intentions.

The technology was developed by Israeli security firm Nemesysco Ltd. Beyond mobile, the affection detection tool is also available for Skype Ltd. and Pocket PC, and as a standalone Windows application. In the U.S., consumers can also access the feature through a calling card service, dubbed LoveDetect, starting at $10 for 30 minutes of calling.

According to their promo-ware:

  • LoveDetect's voice analysis technology detects and measures the emotional content of human speech, captured live through a telephone conversation. By utilizing a wide range spectrum analysis to detect second involuntary changes in the speech waveform itself, LoveDetect can detect anomalies in brain activity and classify them in terms of mental states such as whether your subject is excited, confused, stressed, concentrating, embarrassed, anticipating your responses, or unwillingly sharing information.

On the flip side, Nemesysco's software is also available as a "lie detector" application called LiarCard.

Cable operators could be tempted to bundle such functionality with their VOIP service offerings, or, offer it as an overlay filter to enhance the television viewing experience, such as a truth meter for presidential candidates during CNN and MSNBC news segments.

However, the technology may prove most valuable when applied to cable industry business transactions. For example, sales representatives could use LoveDetect on their calls to see if MSO prospects are genuinely passionate for their products. Of course, MSO engineers and purchasing agents would concurrently use LiarCard when questioning vendor sales reps about product pricing, interoperability, and software release schedules.
