THE HAGUE, The Netherlands -- KPN has launched a new international Ethernet service which provides customers with switched ethernet services between worldwide locations with speeds of up to 1 Gbps. In launching this new service, KPN has seamlessly extended its successful Dutch Ethernet service across its international EuroRings backbone network.

KPN is experiencing rapidly growing demand for Ethernet services in the wide area network (WAN) due to the advantages that the technology offers for customers: simple, any-to-any connectivity, easily-scalable, secure and highly cost effective.

As well as the technology advantages offered by ethernet, customers can now enjoy a fully integrated national & international Ethernet service – with the same high service levels between countries. The level of speed, reliability and security are standardised for all connections, whether they are between Amsterdam and Rotterdam or between Paris and Vienna.

John van Vianen, Senior Vice President Connectivity Services at KPN said, "We are delighted that we can now offer our customers truly international Ethernet services with one service level, one delivery platform, one single point of contact, and one invoice. In order to meet the demand for new services, we are continuing to innovate - in this case, by deploying native ethernet over our next-generation MPLS backbone network. I believe that this new Ethernet service is an important signal of our ongoing commitment to our international customers."
