Juniper Networks announced that Optus is deploying M-series routing platforms to converge its business and residential services
May 31, 2006
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Juniper Networks, (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that Optus, Australia's second largest telecommunications provider and leading challenger in the Australian telecommunication industry, is deploying Juniper Networks M-series routing platforms to converge its business and residential services on a single, multiservice IP network. This world class network, being deployed by Siemens Australia, will enable Optus to deliver a wide range of secure and reliable services to its business and residential customers, including voice, video, data and VPN service offerings.
"After an extensive evaluation, Optus selected the Juniper solution, supplied by Siemens, for its reliability, scalability and performance," said Bill Hope, Managing Director Optus Networks.
The Juniper Networks M320 multiservice routing platform will enable the common packet core to securely and reliably transport traffic from Optus' different customer units, improving the efficiency of service delivery of customers' IP traffic. The M-series' service flexibility and comprehensive feature set enables Optus to deploy multiple M320s configured to provide both core and edge routing functions on a single system. This approach will enable Optus to realize significant deployment and operational cost savings as compared to scenarios where core and edge routing must be provided by separate systems.
Juniper Networks M-series multiservice routing platforms are deployed in the world's largest IP networks where their comprehensive portfolio of VPN capabilities enables the simultaneous support of existing and emerging Layer 2 and Layer 3 services. The M320 is a highly scalable, secure and reliable 320 Gigabits per second capable routing platform supporting 10 Gigabits per second interfaces that leverages the production-proven JUNOS software to deliver consistent services to all customers, regardless of location or connection type.
"Our M-series platform delivers low total cost of ownership without compromise in performance or reliability," said Shaun Page, Vice President of Australia and New Zealand for Juniper Networks. "The powerful, versatile features of the M320 are ideal for service providers such as Optus who are consolidating their infrastructure into a single network capable of supporting a wide range of highly scalable IP-based services today and tomorrow."
