VIENNA, Va. -- Global Internetworking, Inc.(GII), a facilities-neutral telecom carrier, today announced that it has createdthe new position of Vice President of Global Operations and appointed GaryHale to the new position. Hale is an eleven-year veteran of the telecommunications industry, having most recently held a variety ofsenior network management positions within MCI and UUNET.

"As Global Internetworking has grown and broadened its product portfolioto include IP services and international private line data transport, we wanted a proven executive with deep Internet and global experience who could also build on our reputation for operational excellence," saidMike Keenan, Global Internetworking's CEO. "Gary Hale, our new VicePresident of Global Operations, is that person. He helped UUNET become one of theleading IP providers in the world and understands what it takes tomanage complex global networks. In addition, he has the skills, experience andenergy we need to ensure we deliver outstanding service to our customersas we continue to expand."

At Global Internetworking, Hale will be responsible for planning the development and operation of all technology within GII and will be a keyparticipant in setting the executive direction of the company'stechnical strategy going forward. He will have overall responsibility assuring quality service levels for customers, have oversight and responsibilityto assure the proper response to the technical needs of customers, andhandle the technical aspects involved in developing new and expanded servicesand applications. He also has responsibility for Global's internal and external information technology requirements, network design, support, engineering and operation.

Keenan said: "Gary will play a key role in enabling GlobalInternetworking to continue to address the telecommunications needs of the industry, leveraging Global Internetworking's significant understanding of the industry through thoughtful system and application development."

At UUNET, Hale was key to the planning, implementation and operation of UUNET's international expansion. He was a key member of the team that operated the service provider's network, with responsibility for International and domestic Network Support Services, where he had responsibility for Network Quality Assurance, Configuration Management, Internet traffic engineering and Network Service Management.

At MCI/WorldCom, he was an executive responsible for the former-UUNET networks and was assigned responsibility for global network managementfor all of MCI's Internet networks. In this capacity, he supported MCI Internet networks in the U.S., Asia, Pacific Rim, Canada, Latin Americaand Europe.
