Orca signs $1.5M license agreement with FiberCity to launch broadband TV services in the Philippines
January 14, 2004
RA'ANANA, Israel -- Orca Interactive, an Emblaze Group company (LSE:BLZ) and global market leader in developing applications for Broadband-TV services, today announced the signing of an agreement to license Orca's RiGHTv software solutions (RiGHTv(TM) XVOD, RiGHTv(TM) XBIP and RiGHTv(TM) Core) to FiberCity, the leading IP solution provider in the Philippines, for $1.5 million to deploy commercial interactive TV services in the Philippines. These services will include live TV channels and VOD (Video On-Demand) delivered over FiberCity's FTTH network. The commercial launch is scheduled for July 2004 in metro Manila and will eventually cover all major cities throughout the country.
Subscribers will now be able to watch TV through an IP connection over Fiber with unlimited access to all regular scheduled programs. Users will also benefit from VOD services for a "Blockbuster like" feel in their own home. Trick Play capabilities (pause, rewind, fast forward etc.) are offered for VOD and TV series, as well as your own Personal Video Recording (PVR) service to record live programs. Subscribers will be able to browse the Internet directly from their television sets and have access to interactive games, which they can play with other players using the same service. A TV cam will enable users to videoconference one another from the comfort of their own living room, expanding communication experience with family and friends.
"After extensive analysis and testing of various iTV solutions and vendors, we concluded that Orca Interactive has, by far, the most superior technology for broadband-TV services such as VOD and live TV channels over IP networks." Said Dorothy Tanedo Jao, CEO FiberCity, "We are very enthusiastic to launch the first ever iTV service over Fiber in the Philippines, initially in metro Manila and thereafter, throughout the country."
"We are pleased to have been chosen by FiberCity to launch iTV services and consider them to be a very important account in the Far East," said Haggai Barel, CEO Orca Interactive. "Orca is continuing to strengthen its position as global market leader in the development of applications for Broadband-TV services. 2004 will indeed signify a considerable 'ramp-up' in business for us."
