ExceLight Communications introduces 10-Gbit/s direct modulation, Fabry-Perot, uncooled laser diode with integral laser driver
November 29, 2001
RALEIGH, N.C. -- ExceLight Communications announced today the introduction of its new SLM1113, 10Gbps, directly modulated, uncooled, integrated laser diode module for the short haul telecom market, complementing the company’s extensive laser product portfolio.ExceLight’s new 10Gbps direct modulation laser uses Sumitomo Electric Industries’ high-reliability Fabry-Perot laser chip and laser driver devices that are integrated into the small, 19-pin butterfly-type package and has a case operating temperature range of 0 deg C to +75 deg C. The key differentiator of this product is the inclusion of a high-speed laser driver inside the miniature package. Sample quantities of the 1310nm integrated laser module are available now with production quantities available in the first quarter of 2002. Further introductions to this product family will include 1310 & 1550nm DFB laser modules with integral laser driver. In addition, modules with an integrated electro-absorptive modulator section will be introduced for long reach applications.“The introduction of ExceLight’s new integrated 10G laser module is a significant step towards providing our customers with a more complete, integrated solution for their telecom laser requirements. Sumitomo’s vertically-integrated business structure allows us to provide a more complete solution using their design and manufacturing expertise for lasers, ICs and overall packaging technology”, states Ed Miskovic, Director of Marketing and Technology for ExceLight.
