Escarsa to deploy UTStarcom's AN-200O IP DSLAM to deliver broadband services in Colombia

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- UTStarcom, Inc.(NASDAQ:UTSI), a global leader in IP-based, end-to-end networking solutions and services, today announced a contract through its integrator Itelca with Escarsa E.S.P. for the deployment of UTStarcom's AN-2000(TM) IP-based Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (IP DSLAM) solutions and associated ADSL modems in Colombia.

   "This agreement is the result of the commitment of Escarsa and UTStarcom to the development of the telecommunications sector in Colombia," said Glenn Waring, area vice president at UTStarcom. "Colombia has a population of almost46 million people with an Internet penetration of below eight percent, making the country a fertile market for affordable, IP-based broadband technology. Our field-proven IP DSLAM solution is designed to enable operators to deliver next-generation services in a fast and effective way, allowing for a rapid return on investment."

   Escarsa is a private company that provides Internet access, last-mile solutions, and both local as well as regional telephony (both urban andrural) to the Cordoba market in Colombia. In the first stage of the contract, Escarsa plans to provide broadband services based on Internet Protocol to its users, including electronic mail services, file transfer and Internet access enabled by UTStarcom's AN-2000 IP DSLAM. In the near future, Escarsa plans to offer IP telephony, video streaming, as well as ASP and VPN network support.

   UTStarcom's broadband wireline solutions are designed to enable carriers to deploy IP-based, high-speed Internet, voice, data and multimedia services over wireline networks.
