Indonesian mobile operator Excelcom completes deployment of advanced IP-enabled signaling endpoint powered by Cisco Systems

JAKARTA, Indonesia -- PT ExcelcomindoPratama (Excelcom) has completed the deployment of an Internet Protocol(IP)-enabled signaling endpoint designed to enable it to meet the demands ofa growing subscriber base for mobile data applications. Using the Cisco®(Nasdaq:CSCO - News) IP Transfer Point as a signaling gateway between thetraditional Signaling System 7 (SS7) wireless network and IP-enabledsignaling endpoints, Excelcom is taking advantage of the reliability andcost-efficiency of IP networks while building a foundation forthird-generation (3G) wireless network services.Excelcom, as the third nationwide mobile operator in Indonesia, is bringinga new dimension to the mobile experience of its customers with IP. At thesame time, the operator is able to maintain the stringent reliability andfeatures associated with SS7 networks, including subscriber authentication,message traffic delivery, and intelligent network functions such asprepaid-postpaid convergence and enhanced calling services."We have experienced incredible growth in our subscriber base since westarted operations in 1995.
