LINTHICUM, Md., and SAO PAULO, Brazil -- CIENA Corporation (NASDAQ:CIEN - news) and MetroRED Telecomunicacoes, asubsidiary of MetroRED Telecom Group Ltd. and a leader in Latin Americantelecommunications services, today announced a strategic agreement forMetroRED to deploy CIENA's MultiWave CoreStream(TM) intelligent opticaltransportsystems for its high-capacity network connecting Sao Paulo and Rio deJaneiro, Brazil.The deployment of CIENA's CoreStream systems, designed for high-capacitylong-haul applications, will enable MetroRED to deliver the networkcapacity thatscales to economically meet current and future bandwidth requirements.
