LONDON -- BT today launched a new service to enable pan-European mobile operators to better manage the routing of their international voice traffic. Dubbed Mobile To Mobile Routing (MTM), the new service interconnects international mobile calls over BT's extensive global network to other European destinations, by-passing more expensive routing services provided by local incumbent operators. According to research published in TeleGeography's 2003* telecom almanac, during 2001, 22.4 billion international call minutes originated from mobile phones and the total is predicted to rise further. BT's MTM service addresses the demand for capacity and ensures significant cost reduction on interconnect voice routing. From today, mobile operators can use MTM via any of BT's international gateways in Europe including: The Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Germany and the UK, as well as emerging markets for mobile operators in Europe. The service will be deployed in the Czech Republic and Hungary in early 2003. With this extensive reach, ultimately mobile operators can route international mobile voice calls to any European destination and increase international voice revenue opportunities. "Previously, mobile operators have mainly been judged on quality of service of calls routed through to pan-European destinations," said Peter Morley, Vice President of Voice Services for carriers at BT Ignite, BT's business services and solutions division. "Due to increasing competition in this market, it's important that mobile operators embrace the business advantage MTM presents. In the current economic climate, operational efficiency is the key to accelerated revenue growth, especially in international mobile voice services. This new service is yet another capability, strengthening our current portfolio of products and services for mobile operators, which also includes GSM signalling and GPRS Roaming Exchange services. As BT has always led on quality, we are pleased to offer this service, making BT the trusted partner of choice for mobile operators looking to generate profits in the European market-place." The MTM interconnect service platform enables seamless connectivity to other mobile operators and carriers, with all the features associated with traditional direct route calls, including stringent quality of service (QoS) and Service Level Agreements (SLA). To help further reduce operational expenditure, mobile operators can combine MTM with their current interconnect service over BT's global network, allowing all traffic to be managed via one cost-effective connection. The company's global network offers mobile operators a solution that includes high answer seizure ratios (ASR) and short post dial delays (PDD). For the first time, Calling Line Identification (CLI) presentation is also guaranteed with MTM. BT Ignite
