November 24, 2003
LONDON -- BT today took another step towards achieving its intention of becoming a major force in mobile by announcing the appointment of Steven Evans as chief executive of BT Mobile.
Evans, 48, is a former deputy managing director of One 2 One (UK) where he led the development of their successful Mobile Virtual Network Operator relationship with Virgin.
He will be aiming to build a similar success story for BT across the business and consumer markets.
Evans has more than 15 years experience in the communications and technology industries and joins BT from Microgen, an environmental technology business and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the B.G. Group.
Before joining Microgen, Evans was chief executive officer of Dolphin Communications and, for the period 1994 to 1998, he was the deputy chief executive officer of Bouygues Telecom in France.
In his new role, Evans will report to Steve Andrews, managing director, Products and Services. Evans will be responsible for BT's development of new and innovative services in the mobile market and for driving fixed-mobile convergence in pursuit of BT's aggressive customer and revenue growth targets.
Pierre Danon, chief executive of BT Retail, said: "Success in the mobility market is essential for BT. The area under Steven's control is a key part of our strategy which will lead to continued revenue growth as well as the creation of innovative new services for our customers."
Steve Andrews said: "Steven has an impressive track record in the technology and communications markets, both in customer acquisition and operations, and possesses exactly the right skills that are needed to ensure BT Mobile becomes a material and high growth business."
