AMCC Launches 10-Gig 'Khatanga'

Combined 10-gigabit Ethernet and OC192c packet-over-Sonet WAN or LAN PHY solution

SAN DIEGO -- Applied Micro Circuits Corp.(AMCC)(NASDAQ:AMCC - news), the leader inhigh-bandwidth silicon connectivity for the world's intelligent opticalnetworks, today announced the availability of Khatanga (S19205),the industry's first universal 10 Gigabit per Second (Gbps) solutionbringing simultaneous 10 Gigabit Ethernet and OC-192c PacketOver SONET (PoS) capability to Optical Switches and Routers.

Building upon AMCC's field-proven 10Gbps technology, the Khatanga is atrue single-chip 10 Gigabit Ethernet WAN or LAN PHYsolution that integrates a 10Gbps Media Access Control (MAC) block, aPhysical Coding Sub-layer (PCS) and a WAN InterfaceSub-layer (WIS). Alternatively, Khatanga can operate as an OC-192cframer, capable of mapping either IP packets or 10 GigabitEthernet payloads over SONET/SDH. In this mode, a second fully featuredSONET/SDH line interface is available for networkprotection purposes that can be connected either to a second OC-192optical module or to a remote Khatanga device.
