Pay-TV operator chooses telco to deliver multimedia solution for first TV service optimized for SmartPhones in the country

PARIS -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) announced today that it has been selected by Measat Broadcast Network Systems (Astro), Malaysia’s largest pay-TV operator, to deliver an end-to-end multimedia solution to support the delivery of the first television service optimized for SmartPhones in the country.

To support the new service, Alcatel-Lucent has deployed a multi-screen solution enabling Astro to enhance its Astro B.player smartphone service. The service allows Astro’s subscribers with an iPhone, a Blackberry, a Java-based or a Symbian-based Smartphone to enjoy premium services such as live TV and video on demand clips.
