NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Mindspeed Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that Esteban R. Torres has joined the company as vice president, strategy and business development. Torres reports directly to Raouf Halim, chief executive officer of Mindspeed Technologies, and is responsible for formulating long-term strategy, as well as identifying and developing key business expansion and growth initiatives.

"Esteban has a proven track record of successful business development in the communications semiconductor industry," said Halim. "His broad experience and industry expertise will be an important asset to Mindspeed as we execute key business initiatives in the years ahead."

Torres was most recently director of business development at Broadcom Corp., and before that was a consultant at The Boston Consulting Group where he provided high-level strategic advice and market analysis for leading high-tech Fortune 200 companies including Motorola Corp. and Sprint PCS. Torres started his career at Hughes Aircraft Co. as a full-time fellow at the Hughes Research Labs in Malibu, Calif.

Torres has a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, a bachelor's degree in physics and a master's degree in plasma physics, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He earned his master's of business administration from Harvard Business School. Torres was named National Hispanic Engineer of the Year in 1992.
