Milton Keynes: WiMax Pioneer
Apparently, the town makes an ideal testbed for high-speed wireless services because when it was built in the early 70s (that's the 1970s, by the way) the developers used aluminium cable rather than copper wiring, so there isn't much in the way of broadband currently available. Pipex Wireless -- a joint venture between Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) and ISP Pipex Communications plc -- does, however, have plans to install WiMax in other cities in the U.K. that people actually enjoy living in after it is finished with Milton Keynes.
The town itself is currently best known for its concrete cows and awful grid design. I have to doubt that the addition of high-speed wireless is going to do much to change that.
