CARY, NC and JENA, GERMANY -- Microcosm Technologies, Inc. (Cary, NC, USA) announced today that JENOPTIK Mikrotechnik GmbH (Jena, Germany) has joined Microcosm's micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) manufacturing partnership program.

JENOPTIK will contribute its expertise in the fabrication of polymer microcomponents for the rapidly growing micro-optical and microfluidics markets. The complement of capabilities brought by JENOPTIK, the seventh partner to join the program, further augments Microcosm's position as the world leader in providing end-to-end MEMS development solutions.

The partnership will offer a single interface for designing and manufacturing MEMS polymer components particularly suited to telecommunications, biotechnology, micro-optical, and all other technologies where plastic parts are needed. Microcosm will provide the customer interface; device and system design, modeling, and simulation tools; and professional engineering services. JENOPTIK will provide a fully-integrated manufacturing flow that includes tool fabrication, prototyping, packaging, test, quality assurance, and volume production. Of special importance is their fully-automated pilot line now being built, the first for the industry.
