I agree that most consumers are getting more speed than they need, however with the decline of cable tv usage and reliance on the internet for entertainment, it's just a matter of time before the speed requirements catch up with what the providers are offering.

According to the specs, there is no more ESD in 4.0 than there is in 3.1 (it is optional). There was an article stating it would be a "must", but it is not.
