It's somewhat of a sidenote in here, given all the hype around 5G. But removing Huawei as an optics supplier is a really big deal! They are well-entrenched within BT  - so this is not a small, isolated network that would be swapped out.

There's major historical context as well. Led by Matt Bross at the time, BT's decision to go with Huawei for DWDM instead of incumbent Marconi marked the end of Marconi as a viable supplier - eventually getting acquired by Ericsson, and dwindling essentially out of existence.

BT's acceptance of Huawei was also precedent-setting, as it opened the entrance door for Huawei all through Europe. Without BT, Huawei would not have become what it is today.

I'm very curious what BT's plans and timeline would be for removing Huawei.
