Re: Solved at least 20 years ago...

So if my monitor is a TV and I use an XBOX as my STB, what is the difference from a user standpoint?

They have video, multiple people involved, interactivity...

That has been the problem with ITV all along and is a grave danger here.  They use self-referential models and define victory based on this.  The rest of the world looks at things differently.  This is a HUGE problem for Service Providers.  They view themselves at the center of the world.  The rest of the world views them as a way of making phone calls and getting to the Internet.

This discussion also reminds me when EBIF was a thing...or was supposed to be a thing...and never became much of a thing.  Then again, with a name like EBIF, what could go wrong?  http://www.lightreading.com/cable-video/video-services/renaming-ebif/a/d-id/663269

Apples and Oranges. I'm talking about TV and the operator-supplied  set-top boxes. You're talking PCs and the Internet.... though I could've tossed WebTV into the mix somewhere as an interesting idea before its time.  JB

Solved at least 20 years ago...
ITV was solved at least 20 years ago.  Its called Online Multiplayer Video Games.  In those days that would have been Ultima Online and Everquest.
