@mkanterman: Is this likely anytime soon, however? I'm not sure they necessarily need to do either, strategically speaking.

@brooks: Indeed, but I thought I had seen widely reported that Apple was indeed repatriating a great deal of its money because of the reduction in corporate taxes from 35% to 21%.

The missed bit is geography

The reason that Apple (amongst many) will not repatriate their cash is to avoid taxes.  The best way to avoid taxes is to buy assets in the country where the cash is.  Maybe they should make "Apple Properties" and buy land/buildings where the money is.
