Too big to fail
The funny thing is that this is such a widespread and severe problem that it's, in a way, too big to have that deep a negative effect on Intel.

Almost ditto for Equifax, despite the much more negative press and fantastical amount of what-seems-to-be negligence. Indeed, some analysts have been bullish on Equifax.

That's the thing about these enormous breaches/vulnerabilities/exploits/what-have-you. Everybody shrugs their shoulders because they feel powerless -- esp.  because the offender in such situations often has a monopoly or near-monopoly on fixing the problem.
