Financing sales has traditionally worked in many industries of course, like real estate most obviously. To get customers where they otherwise may not be so interested, offering an attractive finance deal may well swing to the benefit of both the seller and the customers.

@mhhf1ve yes, I saw that. I should think that Apple has enough money on hand to build an entire smart country of its own -- not just a city.

I do think Cisco is smart to set up the payment terms this way: "Unlike a grant, the financing program is self-perpetuating, so as cities start to pay back loans, Cisco and its partners can continues to lend out additional money."

Bill Gates...
Bill Gates just bought some land to build his own smart city... I wonder how these projects will actually translate to larger scale deployments. It may be deceptive to roll something out to a few thousand users and think it can scale to millions.
