Re: Latency Issues With Apps
It would make sense that Google and others want to improve on latency, and going into IoT and 5G arenas will mandate some almost nil latency to operate with efficiency and keep the customers happy for sure.

Re: Latency Issues With Apps
Although probably the vast majority of users don't notice the changes in latency generally encountered, I wonder if the latency improvement changes will make larger or any differences to networks and slower speed connections found in rural and home use?

Re: Latency Issues With Apps
There are some speed gains from software shortcuts, but that will only get so much improvement. Real gains probably come from having more control over the network hardware and its placement. I wonder if Google is building point to point wireless networks.....

I can imagine they're doing a combination of things and they're all listed under "eyes only" at HQ.

Seriously -- It is very interesting they're able to do this at all. There's some secret sauce on the line somewhere. :)

Re: Latency Issues With Apps
I'm curious how Google is accomplishing low latency levels where it doesn't have control over the network. Are they building more data centers closer to customers-- or are they developing their own fiber networks?

Latency Issues With Apps
Application performance in particular is why Google has to be hyperfocused on the issues of latency. They know low latency leads to angry users. And they certainly don't want that!
