Perhaps. I still think if broadband is as important as we all know it is, a lot of that money would have been better served on shoring up fixed-line connections that still can't compete with cable's current top speed offerings. Gigabit deployments are far more modest than their marketing department indicates.

Legacy infrastructure, contracts and thinking have hurt AT&T for years. The DirecTV purchase may still prove to be positive once the company feels it has the marketshare to raise prices.

Well gosh it's nothing another massive "growth for growth's sake" megamerger can't fix, right?

Kind of a rough spot for AT&T, who tried hard to adapt via DirecTV Now, but still can't quite dodge this bullet.
