Baaa. Baaa.
This kind of service should be a big hit with the sheeple and everyone who enjoys the comfort of their own personal information bubble. Closed mind, open wallet.

To reach those close-minded and affluent sheeple, it nonetheless takes a disruptor to change the rules - and I guess herd them into new pens. I do enjoy seeing what Weber is up to. And fun to imagine former Gemstar/TV Guide CEO Henry Yuen - wherever he is - trying to litigate this one.

Re: Baaa. Baaa.
Just as Mari's story was being posted, Jeff Weber of ZoneTV and Joey Fulcher of Ooyala were presenting a ZoneTV demo during the first Media & Entertainment Day at Microsoft Technology Center in New York. ZoneTV appeared to be intriguing to the audience for its UI and use of metadata.

While ZoneTV, like any startup, faces an uphill climb, I suspect there's a behind-the-scenes business reason why Comcast and others are offering it. ZoneTV offers original content and curates a lot of other content that together provide an example of how big cable networks may not be as valuable or necessary as they once were. As cable providers face negotiations with cable programmers over escalating carriage fees, they're always looking for ways to throw a fastball at the networks' heads. ZoneTV serves as another fastball.
