Re: Cable & SD-WAN
Yes, Jonathan, many foresee an interim period of hybrid approaches. This viewpoint seems to be suitable for many enterprises that may not be ready or willing to jump into SD-WAN with both feet, and to providers who might be wary of cannibalizing existing MPLS business.

So how do you do a hybrid approach? Here's a link to Carol's story about how CenturyLink is approaching hybrid SD-WAN (with a classic photo!):

Re: Cable & SD-WAN
Dogfooding? OK, I gotta admit I'm stumped by that term so you'll have to enlighten me. I understand it can refer to working out technical glitches or a way in which companies can test and promote a product. Which could be apt for the cable industry and SD-WAN.

But, if were me and it was like my dog, I'd use the term to refer to how a dog protects his food while eating and you'd better not disturb it unless you want to lose a finger. Which also could be apt for the cable industry. :)

Re: Cable & SD-WAN
Given Carol's article today, it also looks as if 'hybrid' (by which I take to mean SD and MPLS) WAN approaches are going to be another option for the industry at large - including anyone having deployed MPLS.

Cable & SD-WAN
The cable operators have an added incentive to get going with their SD-WAN act and other "intelligent" network solutions precisely because video content is their bread and butter much more so than with other network carriers. I suspect they'll do quite well here, accordingly, as a matter of "dogfooding".
