Re: Irredeemable
I voted the same way in the poll. I think Uber has far too many issues to come out of this any better.

Re: Irredeemable
Indeed, @Sarah. What made me decide to never download the app was the company's longtime notoriousness for being less than respectful of customer privacy.

But, again, these were controversies that began and came to light years ago. I doubt this is the end for Uber. With a good product or service, there is virtually nothing that a major company can't fix with enough of a reorg. The setting aside of Kalanick (even if only temporary) is a step in the right direction.

Yes, "in between"
I voted the top "Yes" response, but my exact take on the matter isn't so adequately described. From what I have seen, while Uber's business has been impacted, most Uber customers simply don't particularly care about the controversy -- at least, enough to stop using Uber. Uber dominates over Lyft for more than just clever -- if controversial -- business tactics. For starters (speaking anecdotally, mind you), the drivers are often better (at least, around these parts) -- even to the point of making Lyft's plentiful pricing incentives.

Think of it this way: What if Coca-Cola was going through the same problems? Sure, there would be a very vocal yet distinct minority boycotting the business -- some not entirely successfully (failing to understand all the brands that Coca-Cola owns, controls, or otherwise profits from)...and most loyal Coca-Cola consumers -- even those otherwise outraged by such a controversy -- would continue to buy their preferred Coca-Cola brands. (Ever talk to someone who strongly holds to one side or the other in the Pepsi vs. Coke debate? It's like religion to them.)

In any case, I'm not a customer myself of Uber or any other "ride-sharing" service (although I have been in a couple of Ubers in my time when traveling with an Uber customer). I get by without them. So my insights may be lacking in the form of direct expertise. Your mileage (heh) may vary. ;)

Re: Irredeemable
We don't have Uber here in Austin because they refused to do background checks on their drivers...it's outrageous. But, there are a lot of alternatives that follow the rules and charge the same amount, plus I feel safe in them. At this point, I wouldn't take an Uber even if it were offered. It's gone too far.

Seriously. It is so, so bad. In a lot of ways, the rampant sexual harassment and discrimination is the least of Uber's problems, and that is pretty scary.

Re: Irredeemable
I agree. But I don't think Uber wants to change (as I indicated with my vote).

Uber strikes me as a bunch of guys who want all the privileges of running a company but none of the responsibilities. I've been anti-Uber for a long time.

Irredeemable
This was the article that convinced me. I also find it absolutely repugnant that Kalanick himself isn't fired given that he participated in something this morally repugnant.
