I completely agree about culture -- you can't keep hoping culture will change if you're not doing anything to directly influence it.

This was an excellent, candid panel discussion! The speakers made a lot of great points, and the one about diversity (but also authentic commitment, practicing what you preach, etc) needing to come from the top was especially apt. If your boss doesn't take advantage of flexible work policies, for example, you won't think that you can -- even if the company "encourages" them. Or if your CEO has demonstrated he doesn't care about diversity in recruiting, incentivizing managers to improve won't help at all.

They also said they thought company culture had to be explicity spelled out before it was put into practice, which makes sense again going back to authenticity and commitment from the top.
