Re: WaPo gender split
Alison, The article is specifically talking about the engineering dept, so while it's unclear how the ranking falls in terms of seniority, they aren't saying there are a ton of women but they all work in HR; they are definitely engineers. I totally agree that a percentage is needed and that it's a bit sneaky not to divulge though!

Re: WaPo gender split
It does seem unusual, especially at a time when tech companies at least are (willingly or reluctantly) breaking out their staffs by gender, ethnicity and other diversity measures. If, indeed, WaPo has hit a magic number, especially if done organically, you'd think they'd tout it! I always like to dig a bit deeper too, even if companies have a more even mix of men/ women to see who's in authority. Often, you find women in 'traditional female roles' in HR, PR, etc., but otherwise under-represented in top management. Hope that's not the case at the Post.

WaPo gender split
That's great about WaPo, but I'd still like to do the math! What's the gender split? It should be very easily calculated.

I did an interview with an exec where she went on about how great their seemingly 50/50 gender split is and how she created it naturally, etc, but when I asked for the actual numbers, it was more like 25% women. Maybe she interacted with women in her organization enough that it made her think there was more of them than there really were. Not saying that's the case at WaPo, but why not share the numbers?
