Chatbots are likely to improve greatly as the underlying technology improves -- and there is a big drive to improve the underlying technology as companies seek to maximize use of virtual assistants, which have basically the same underlying technology as chatbotss.

@danielcawrey: At the same time, IBM is also trying to change, so where does this all lead us? I think for sure that Cisco is moving away from the hardware market to the software and cloud space. It has a lot of money on hand to make the acquisitions that it needs.

the chatbots are coming..
I certainly hope that this next generation wave of AI chatbots will be more friendly than the first generation that were easy to spot as "artificial" and didn't really offer that much help. 

Moviefone was typical.. of the not-so-great AI of yesteryear...

IBM
Cisco is really making a big shift, and I don't think a lot of people realize this. 

They are really becoming more IBM-like. Yes, the company still does routers and switches. But they realize that's a door to other more margin generating businesses. Smart move.
