Re: And seemingly undetered... Nokia expands its suit
Filing in the Eastern District of Texas? Anyone still want to argue that they aren't acting like a patent troll?

And yet Rambus made products....including those that used those patents.  That is not trolling.  It is enforcing your rights.  I note that Rambus sued Samsung and since I know you are a Samsung Troll and that you attack other companies out of hand.  For example, your commentary about Nokia's future in your post.

The example of Silicon Valley's most famous patent troll Rambus would prove otherwise.

Rambus did invent most of patents it used to troll on real chip vendors.

So yes, the definition of a patent troll is a company whose use of patents to generate value is litigation, not an actual product.

Nokia of 2016 fits this definition of a patent troll perfectly.

And Nokia has no choice but to become a patent troll to survive, since Nokia no longer makes phones and its market share in basestation is shrinking, so much so that Nokia would become a marginal player in 5G era.

Re: Deep dive...

A patent troll is one that generally never had any engineering that invented the patent in the first place.  They buy patents and then enforce them.  Nokia was developing and therefore spent R&D dollars to develop those patents.  Very different situation.  So, vendors are never patent trolls.  Otherwise practically all companies that enforce or trade patents are trolls.  Because you will find patents in all of their portfolios that they drop on the table that they are not using.  That is part of the game played between the lawyers.

A vendor that manufactures product that uses the patent is not a patent troll.

A vendor that doesn't manufacture anything that uses the patent, but the primary source of income is litigation and licensing fee is a patent troll.

Nokia is therefore a patent troll for mobile phones.

From your own link

"Nokia.com/phones website is operated by HMD Global Oy, the exclusive licensee of the Nokia brand for phones and tablets."

Nokia doesn't make phones anymore.

Re: Deep dive...

So if you own a patent and enforce it you are a troll?

How about Samsung publishes all designs with all packages publicly, since Intellectual Property has no value.

Nokia doesn't make feature phones, they sold the entire phone business to Microsoft for $7 billion which then wrote the purchase off two years later.

At this time, Nokia is essentially acting as a patent troll, because they have tons of WCDMA/LTE patents to take advantage of.
