Re: In fact, Apple is getting out of the home router biz anyway.
This has to be all about virtual reality. It's been rumored Apple is working on VR, and it makes sense because they already have a device that could potentially support it - the iPhone. Mobile phones paired with headsets are the future of VR if you ask me - people aren't going to attach a clunky device to a PC.

If, as the ads suggest, they're developing baseband and RF mmWave designs then they're probably looking at least an 18 month design cycle.

@Joe agreed -- better to build a demand for it now, before everyone else is providing the same

@DanJones: Too bad.  It would have been interesting (and probably quite convenient) to see a router/Apple TV hybrid device.

Good to be ahead of the game
Better to start now -- well before actual gigabit speed demand comes to the consumer -- than wait until 2019 or 2020 or so when we darn well EXPECT it!

In fact, Apple is getting out of the home router biz anyway.
In fact, Apple is getting out of the WiFi router/home router business it appears anyway.
