Acquisitions
Interesting article. It's clear one of the reasons Ciena has been able to last so long has to do with strategic acquistions. It seems the Nortel buy was one key. It certainly wasn't the only pivotal move, but I think many people dismiss how important M&A can be. It's pretty crucial in technology, that's for sure.

Re: Acquisitions
In some research earlier this year, I looked at one of the big OIF-led optical interoperability demonstrations from Supercomm 2001. There were 25 vendors in that big demo. But of those 25 participants, only 3 company names remain standing today: Cisco, Huawei, and Ciena. Who would have predicted that outcome 15 years ago?

I'm also interested in the India market resurgence. I enjoyed hosting the Next-Gen Packet Transport events in India in 2011-2014, but it was obvious that regulatory uncertainty was really holding back the telecom market. Have the regulatory issues been sorted out now? If so, I imagine there's a lot of pent up demand for investment in India.
