Re: Gigabit & the Great Migration @farobert wrt "And the relationship of the decision to go D-CMTS along with N=0 for DOCSIS FD?"  If it was not clear, note D3.1 does not require ANY changes in the plant to work and provide more capacity.  The tools shown - splits, upgrade, deeper fiber - all contribute to better use in  one way or another of the network for D3.1  D-CMTS is not required, however, digital optics has additional benefits that may justify the change.  Operators have to weigh these pros and cons.

Re: Gigabit & the Great Migration @bchen928 wrt "Can you talk more about the echo cancell"  In a nutshell using the same spectrum at the same time means a transmission could interfere with a reception on one end of the network unless steps are taken to avoid it.  Because the Tx / Rx device knows what it is transmistting, it has an opportunity to cancel the signal to avoid interfering with the receiver..."echo" refers to the reflect transmission come back into the receiver where it could disturb reception and (isolation between Tx and Rx is also important)

Re: Gigabit & the Great Migration @farobert wrt "the group might benefit from addressing the decision to change amps for DOCSIS 3.1 to expand the uplink spectrum, rather than waiting for DOCSIS FD? Thanks!"  Cable operators have varying opinions and regular debates about how they to address upstream growth....these are just some of the tools available each comes with pros and cons to weigh
