Provide Support for ECOMP Platform
"This is a big decision and getting it right is crucial," Donovan continues. "We want to build a community – where people contribute to the code base and advance the platform. And, we want this to help align the global industry. We've engaged a third-party company to be the integrator and provide support in the industry for the ECOMP platform. And we've received positive feedback from major global telecom companies. We're excited to share more on that front very soon."

Any guesses on the un-named third-party company selected by AT&T to be the integrator and support provider for ECOMP? Would it be possible for other companies to select their own supported version of ECOMP and not be restricted by the T&C of using the open-source ECOMP? There needs to be more clarity from AT&T on this issue.

Re: Open Source ECOMP
Seems we're taking a page from a very successful book.

David Clark (IETF): "...We believe in rough consensus and running code".

And another bit:

IETF Standards Track specifications are not considered to be satisfactory standards until interoperable independent implementations have been demonstrated. (This is the embodiment of the "running code" slogan.)

Open Source ECOMP
Great (interesting) to see AT&T has gone ahead with this as an open source project.

I know several operators that had "kicked the tyres" on ECOMP over the winter/spring and were interested in using/contributing to the project.

The quote from Chris Rice in the article was about right too -- operators I asked were reasonably happy with the outline ("the core"), but had some ideas for extensions, or how to do some things differently.

The challenge really (obviously) is to get people to use it and work on it. AT&T is taking a risk here, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
