Re: Google AI
It does appear that Google has boat loads of stuff "coming soon" and I wonder about the complex menu of their video conferencing apps. If somehow they could simplify into one easy to use video calling and conferencing app maybe they could keep well ahead of the competition. But in any event it still looks like the various mobile apps are all designed cleverly to keep folks informed about all manner of business hours, locations, menus, and other goodies without having to look elsewhere.

Re: Execution will be key here
More potential competitive edge for Google:

- International support for Home, not for Echo.

- Home support for cast technology lets it operate in multiple rooms. Every Echo is an independent device.

As for Duo: Its biggest competitor is probably FaceTime. Duo would have an advantage here in being multiplatform.

Skype is also multiplatform, but Skype gets a lot of hate nowadays.

Execution will be key here
Sure, a cynic might dismiss these announcements as a bunch of "me too" products. But execution will be key here. Particularly in the case of the Home product, if it's a lot better than the competition, it has a good shot at doing well.

And Home will be integrated into the Google ecosystem, which gives it a good start.

On the other hand, with the messaging products, network effects matter more than quality. Users don't want the best service from a technical standpoint. They want the one their friends and family are on.

Re: Google AI
Some people love Google Now. I've never had much use for it. Perhaps this new virtual assistant -- the Son (or Daughter) of Google Now -- will do better.

Re: Google AI
Some of the best matches and most intense rivalries can be found in the Croatian third division. Krapina-Zagorje is particularly feisty, especially when the slivovitz is flowing freely.

Google AI
I had "Google Now" activated on my phone for a while. It kept alerting me there was a football match on, somehere (anywhere!) -- even the Croatian 3rd division made it to my screen. I switched it off.

I might give it another go when the new features come out, although from the I/O conference it appeared to be mainly about booking restaurants through the Google reviews page. Useful for some, perhaps.
