informative session

Light Beer

Thanks, Patrick and Kelsey for this informative lecture

Light Beer

Weak authentication methods

Light Beer

thank you for this informaive webinar. Steven

Light Beer

Can we get more information of Security as a Service?

Light Beer

Will moving NFV to private cloud reduces the security threat?

Light Beer

Mixed hardware.

Light Beer

acount hacker is the main threat.

Light Beer

Good day, all.

Light Beer

Really good presentation! Thank you!

Light Beer

System vulnerabilities

Light Beer

Boston, Sunny and warm!

Light Beer

missed the first time

Light Beer

@jayakd0 glad you were able to check out the recording...hope we'll see you on the chat boards tomorrow for Analytics & Virtualization 101 w/Sachin Katti, Stanford!

An open architecture or closed architecture, which is more secure? I feel there should be a detailed investigation on this subject which itself will necessitate yet for another lecture. Anyway thanks Patrick/LR team for some of the insights from this lecture!

Light Sabre

also looking at the debugging features available for onchip resources, still there are security holes in any architecture...the only way seems to be securely closely the debug features in such systems in an online production environment.

Light Sabre

"Hardware Mediated Execution", will it not affect the memory/bus access performance considerably?

Light Sabre

logging offline from Bangalore...glanced the slides, architecture diagram of VNFs and the different interoperability scenarios of New IP agency look great...thanks LR for archiving these talks!

Checking in from San Diego!
Light Beer

Thank you for the presentation.

Light Beer

@pdonegan67: Machine learning is a huge goal, exciting to follow.

Light Beer

Thanks @Kelsey and @Patrick. Great class. I learned a lot.

Lightning

Thanks @Patrick for an excellent presentation! Listeners, tune in on Wednesday at 1pm ET for Analytics & Virtualization 101 !

Blogger

We have just a few minutes left, any other questions for Patrick?

Blogger

Machine learning is the way it has to go. Early(ish) days.

Light Sabre

Thanks a lot. Very interesting subject and Challenges

Light Sabre

Thanks Patrick for answering my question. When can we expect to see automation and machine learning advancements making a serious dent in cyber attacks? WIll it be soon enough considering the move to virtual networks?

Lightning

DS/IPS Intrusion Detection System / Intrusion Protection System

Light Sabre

John Gordon, yes I agree with your point. I didn't buy the "businesses aren't preparing" line.

Light Sabre

does anyone know what the acronyms IDS/IPS stand for on slide 10?

Light Beer

@Patrick what do  you think about security for virtual networks looking more like building rings around things rather than fencing in a whole network?

Blogger

Fecning in a whole network sounds a bit like a permieter staretgy of old. For sure, security policy will have to get more granular and more distributed. If I understand you correrctly, yes, I can see how that would mean more "rings"

Light Sabre

holding their cards close to their chests, right @John

Lightning

Thank you.  Complex subject, but it needs additional material.

Light Beer

Maybe businesses only appear to not be preparing because of the need to keep quiet about where the preparation is happening, so as not to reveal areas of vulnerability to even larger numbers of potential hackers.

Light Beer

Thanks for presentation, Mr. Patrick D. Good stuff.

Light Beer

what does Patrick think about fsecurity for virtual networks looking more like building rings around things rather than fencing in a whole network?

Lightning

AT&T's Jason Porter will be on Upskill U next week to talk about IoT and cyber security, by the way

Lightning

What about security and containers?

Moderator

Interestingly, AT&T came out with its new cybersecurity report today and according to that report, for all the concern about cybersecurity, the statistics Porter cites in his blog show that businesses may be worried about breaches but aren't translating that worry into the proper preparation. If nothing has give the urgency as of yet, what do you think will be the catalyst for change?

Lightning

Is it harder for service providers to come up with policies when they partner with cloud companies? How are polcies managed?

Moderator

By the provider's security resources.

Light Beer

Third party platforms

Light Beer

Moats between apps for security purposes via separate hardware should not be a problem as hardware costs decline, no?

Light Beer

singing and dancing NFV environment....ha

Lightning

Where is our legal eagle @JoeStanganelli when we need him?

Lightning

@John I would imaging that providers do as much as they can to not be liable.

Lightning

Coming up on our 2nd listener question, get your questions in!

Blogger

@gneangodav8v "When the cloud is hacked/breached is the provider held responsible...?": I'm guessing that the agreement between the cloud user and provider will tend to limit the provider's liability. Are current agreements holding providers liable?

Light Beer

Good question @gnean ...

Lightning

When the cloud is hacked/breached is the provider held responsible, is the onue on the client/user or does it depend on the SLA?

Who actually owns the data once placed on the cloud?

Light Beer

I believe system vulnerabilities will enable all the other security threats. That is, system vulnerabilities encompass data breaches, enable hackers and weak authentication measures, etc.

Light Beer

A combination of weak authentication and hackers using social tools

Light Beer

system vulnerabilities

Lightning

A mix of them

Light Sabre

@Vkhanna you can answer the poll in the chat window

Blogger

I did not see the poll window.

Light Beer

Listeners, what's the biggest security threat in a cloud environment? Data breaches, weak authentication measures, system vulnerabilities, account hackers, or something else?

Blogger

system vulnerabilities

Light Beer

other - people

Light Beer

System vulnerabilities.

Light Beer

what about security for SDN controllers?

Moderator

I thought cloud-based networks and virtualized networks meant less involvement in the detailed layers as shown in slide 16. Will it be necessary to maintain involvement in the details?

Light Beer

What other questions do you all have for Patrick?

Blogger

What is the security between the cloud and the client (i.e., is there any encryption that happens between consumer and provider, just like in a VPN setup)?

Light Beer

We'll ask our first listener question in just a few minutes, start thinking about what questions you have for Patrick!

Blogger

Welcome, everyone! Wow, what a global audience.

Can't wait to hear Patrick on this topic! Already downloaded my course material :)

Light Beer

Glad you'll be joining us, @Michelle!

The handy dandy countdown clock says we're just 45 minutes away from the start of this session. Looking forward to it!

Light Sabre

Looking forward to a great presentation by Patrick Donegan today! Don't forget to download his slides from the link under "Special Educational Materials."

Blogger

Hi @Business, MatSam and gliptak - in May we emailed registrants about the date change for this course. Apologies if you didn't receive the update. See you on Monday!

Blogger

Says Mon June 13th at the top. I guess postponed.

Light Beer

Hello, Is this webcast postponed ?

Light Beer

Looking forward to hearing from Patrick about how to tackle the security challenge!
