How 5G contributes to faster service innovation?

Light Beer

Which vendors are involved in your 5G project?

Light Beer

@klogan453  2G is already sun setting in developed world, whereas it will continue some more years in developing world. So IOT/M2M services need to move to NB-IOT in 4G.

Light Sabre

Who is laughing next to the mic?

Light Beer

Will the growth of IoT take bandwidth across 2G, 3G, and 4G or will it go 5G and dictate retirement of these older technologies?

Light Beer

Can I ask questions?

Light Beer

Lexington, KY  it's warm, very warm.

Light Beer

Thank you both. Very good

Light Beer

São Paulo, Clear

Light Beer

@Redacre - Good idea! Great way to learn something new while waiting for your flight.

Blogger

Looking forward to listening to some of the past recordings while I'm at the airport.

Light Beer

@Michelle Glad you could join us, I had my morning cuppa Joe in hand! And yes, I am happy for the recordings, too, it's great to be able to revisit the material.

Blogger

Congrats to all who made to this early session! I'm happy archives are available.

Light Sabre

Looking forward to another round of Upskill U @ BCE tomorrow morning on Mobile Video: Finding a Solution!

Blogger

Thanks eveyrone! Tune back tomorrow for Live from Austin

Lightning

Thanks Gerry for that great talk!

Light Sabre

Thanks, Gerry and Gabriel! Was fun being able to tune in to the live stream from BCE!

Blogger

great info and presentation

Light Beer

Mission critical services need continuous connectivity. But there are blackout areas especially defence establishments vicinity etc How will 5G address these?

Light Sabre

got your question answered for you @jayakd0

Lightning

Is OFDM going to be the key radio waveform for 5G ?

Light Beer

What are the early experiences of LTE by telcos like Verizon, which needs urgent attention in the evolution of 5G?

Light Sabre

Interesting question, @jayakd0!

Blogger

What do you think is the potential of the open source community in the 5G evolution?

Light Sabre

which access technlogy do you think will be replaced by 5G? 2G, 3G, or 4G? In other words, which older technology do you expect to coexist with 5G for a while?

Light Beer

Gerry and Gabe are here for 10 more mins so send in those questions now!

Lightning

Question from the classroom " We talk about new services as enhanced moile Broadband, How does WiFi will be inclulded in the 5G framework?"

Light Beer

Great question, @David!

Blogger

With moving compute to the edge in a virtual environment, how will you effectively handle the virtual service handoffs between cell sites without increasing latency. Example - autonomous vehicles move down the road.

Light Beer

wrapping up and getting ready for questions now! slide 20

Lightning

What other questions do you all have for Gerry and Gabriel?

Blogger

I'll ask Gerry that one for you @General

Lightning

views about MuLTE FIRE?

Light Beer

4G is already data only

Light Beer

5g is data only? or its lower latency is more useful

Light Beer

Is 5G really a capacity requirement driven tech.? I feel the loer latency is more critical and a god use case

Light Beer

Thanks for the questions! We'll be taking questions at the end of the class

Lightning

Thanks, @TeleWRTRLiz!

Blogger

Question from the live classroom: "Howw much interest does Verizon have in broadcasting spectrum going up for auction. Use for 4G or 5G?

Light Beer

slide 13 folks!

Lightning

Question from the classrom: "80% of Cellular traffic generated indoor. How do you plan to address it?"

Light Beer

For all those live in Austin, please remember to write down your questions for Gerry and bring them up to the fron of the class room :)

Light Beer

getting ready to take a question for Gerry in a few

Lightning

slide 10 folks

Lightning

Good question, @Alison! Listeners - get your questions in now! What do you want to ask Gerry and Gabriel?

Blogger

How does Verizon work on 5G without the release of standards yet. Is it all simply planning?

Light Sabre

I think South Korea

Lightning

Hopefully US. But I think it could well be South Korea

Light Sabre

Listener poll for those on the chat board: With initial 5G testing starting this year, operators and vendors are mostly looking at commercial 5G deployment in 2020. A number of countries are in the running to be the first to roll out 5G, which do you think will be first? China, Japan, Russia, South Korea, United States of America, Other (Please list the country)?

Blogger

How about VolTE? of Voice will always be CS?

Light Beer

8x increase ... wow

Lightning

Hi @$Andeep! we're on slide 5

Blogger

very ambitious targets!

Lightning

Is IoT one reason 2G, 3G devices will continue to grow a lot, even when 5G arrives around 2020 or so?

Light Sabre

Good questions, @Alison! What other questions do you all have for Gabriel and Gerry?

Blogger

Who is involved in the standardization of 5G? Is it all down to that one governing body or are more organizations/companies, etc., involved? Do you expect any competing standards for 5G?

Light Sabre

sunny here in west fl

Light Beer

Lightning

@mneubelt we must have sent all our rain your way!

Blogger

Was that the bat phone?

Light Sabre

That was a good reminder: Since we're all sharing a space (versus listening in our offices or on-demand) we should remember to turn off our ringers. Just turned off several alarms on my phone! :)

Light Sabre

I see our lecturer has arrived!

Light Sabre

@Alison_Diana, that's very cool!

Blogger

Good morning, @TeleWRTRLiz and good morning, listeners! Please download the slide deck from the link above under "Special Educational Materials."
