Re: Of course, we'd say NIA is the answer
Standardization would be a good way to accelerate acceptance; however, big private players like ATT may be too timid in adopting and guidelining their own internal standards...and then pushing them out to the marketplace.  Rather than waiting for the cats to herd themselves.

Sounds like there is a need for open standardization here. That's not going to be easy with do many moving parts, but I think it is totally doable for the telcos.

Proprietary and centralizated systems being super siloed just doesn't work today; systems have become too complex to devote the same resources to every single instance, so I applaud this move.

RE: NIA is the Answer
Carol, congratulations to LR and the leadership on your site for interoperability.  I would hope that AT&T participates; which could provide the leading platform for advancement.

Chiosi is so correct, but it seems to be a major management hurdle to get companies to collaborate.  The reality is that they won't develop the markets if they can't scale and they won't grow if everyone creates their own system.  Note:  That would be like everyone building their own freeway!

Of course, we'd say NIA is the answer
Our New IP Agency addresses a lot of the coming together that Margaret Chiosi describes and you can read all about it right here: http://www.lightreading.com/nfv/nfv-tests-and-trials/light-reading-invites-leading-communications-networking-organizations-to-take-part-in-the-worlds-first-ever-nfv-interoperability-evaluation/d/d-id/717529
