Re: Fact Checking
kq4ym, yes, it is interesting.  Shared visions.  But they definitely open up the thinking and the art of possibility that others can invest in and bring to life.  They are our thought pioneers working along side the inventors.

Re: Fact-Checking
It's always interesting to see how SF writers come up with themes and inventions that for the present seem miraculous or at least an impossibility. Whether those become reality I suppose is determined by lots of things, chance, the profitabilty of the idea, and not too be minimized, the amount of investment made in the technology either by government, miliatry, or private industry.

Re: To speak of sci-fi writers predicting the tech future...
@Mitch: It is.  It is a short story in his 1951 anthology The Illustrated Man.  (Incidentally, I wrote a brief synopsis of the story here.  Obviously, spoiler alerts are in place.)

And speaking of Ray Bradbury and The Illustrated Man, this is one of my favorite things on the Internet.  (Very NSFW language).

Joe, I don't remember that one. Was that a Bradbury story?

To speak of sci-fi writers predicting the tech future...
Depressingly, I think it's just a matter of time before Ray Bradbury's "The City" stands out as an example of life imitating art.

Re: Fact-Checking
Mitch, excellent writing - you and John are in a superior league!  You both need to let me know when your book is published!  Thanks for great analysis - looking forward to the final chapter.
