Well, as a T-mobile sub neither would matter to me.  I am on their basic family package that includes unlimited data and unlimited texting.

Good question. I will check in with T-Mobile. They could either count it as data or as texting or both, as Verizon got in trouble for doing with video chatting... I can't imagine they'd charge extra for it, but I'm sure it's monetized one way or the other.

So how are they billing the feature? And does this mean the carriers are finally weaning off of the SMS cash cow?
