Re: Has gender been an issue for you?
Perhaps not what you're looking for, but here's a relevant summer job story from my teens: One year, I worked at an arcade owned by a middle-aged guy.  At this arcade, if you weren't an electrician, all the females were managers and/or cashiers (including the two-years-younger-than-me girl who started around the same time I did) who got to sit (and all the managers/cashiers were female), and all the males were prize-booth attendants and were not allowed to sit -- being forced to stand all day, even while eating lunch (yes, this is unlawful).  And the males were the ones that always had to do the undesirable manual-labor tasks like sweeping, cleaning the bathroom, etc.

(And, of course, prize-booth attendants were paid less.)

Fast-forward several years later, when I find out exactly why this employer took such good care of his female employees.  The middle-aged guy is convicted as a sex offender.  Turns out the beneficial treatment for the female employees was to "groom" them.  He invited his favored female employees (some of whom were underage) to his vacation home all the time, and in the guest bathrooms and guest bedrooms he apparently had hidden cameras running to secretly record them.  He also had hidden cameras in the bathrooms at the arcade for this purpose, too.  And there were reports/allegations of inappropriate remarks/interactions.

Obviously, he was forced to sell the arcade.

I couldn't bring myself to feel particularly bad for him.

"waiting in line"
Pardon my ignorance, but is the "waiting in line for the bathrooms" thing really a big issue at conferences for women?  I always felt like that was a big cliche, but that the only times I've ever seen disproportionately long lines at the ladies rooms was at the theatre or at big events in small restaurants/venues.

Has gender been an issue for you?
I imagine, and hope, that for some women, gender has never been an issue in their careers. But, I recognize that for many, it's had both its advantages and challenges. I hope we get a lot of "All of the above" responses for you.

Has gender been an issue for you? I think it's worth exploring that here as well to hear different viewpoints.
