Interesting that Facebook doesn't want to build its own optical equipment. They're taking the opposite approach in the data center.

Mitch, In the data center they're assembling existing components, which is the same thing they appear to be saying aboutthe optical side. The hardware they design is the physical hardware and boards to reflect their experiences with scaling data centers and its needs, which they then publish in open-sources format.
